Sports & Work Injuries
Complete care for your sports & work injuries
Most sports involve running or, in the case of golf, walking long distances. Hips, knees, ankles, Achilles tendons, heels and feet are subject to all kinds of injuries. Other common sports injuries include tennis/golfer’s elbow, shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff/bursitis, strains/sprains, low back problems and muscle pain. These injuries can impact competitive athletes and “weekend warriors” alike.
Physiatrists offer their special training and experience to design special strength and conditioning programs to reduce or eliminate pain, enhance performance and prevent future injury. Treatment may include physical therapy, modalities, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, bracing, splinting, orthotics, prosthetics, acupuncture and intra-articular injections.
Sports Injuries
While there is no single treatment that can eliminate all sports- or work-injury pain for every individual, these injuries are treatable and manageable. We can help you with a wide variety of traditional and alternative therapies, including:
• Injection therapy • Joint mobilization • Osteopathic manipulation • Home exercise programs • Manual therapy to optimize function in the spinal joints & surrounding soft tissue • Trunk stabilization & strengthening for chronic low back pain • Acupuncture • Pain medication management • Intensive physical therapy • TENS •Massage therapy • Heat, cold, ultrasound & electrical stimulation
We strongly emphasize patient education. The more you know and understand about your body and your condition, the better able you are to participate in the pain treatment process for better, longer-lasting results.
We also work closely with your doctor and, if necessary for a work-related or Workers’ Compensation claim, your case manager. You are assured a positive experience that can produce the results you need.
Work- Related Injuries
Work-related injuries include repetitive-motion/cumulative-trauma stress, spinal problems – particularly in the heavy-machinery industries. Repetitive-motion problems include conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis.
The incidence of cumulative trauma in the workplace continues to increase as computer usage grows. Neck pain, back strain, hand and wrist pain and shoulder pain are all associated with sitting at computer monitors and typing for hours at a time.
After a comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation to pinpoint the source of your pain, Dr. Annette Da Silva will create a personal program to decrease your pain, increase your strength, promote healing and restore you to function. She offers complete care for most sports and work injuries, including those that cause:
